Pharmacists practising in Queensland are advised that after Friday, 9 September 2022, new pharmacists and pharmacies will no longer be accepted into the UTIPP-Q pilot.
The following update from Professor Lisa Nissen on behalf of the consortium managing the pilot provides further context.
Thank-you to all the pharmacists and pharmacies who have participated in the successful UTIPP-Q pilot so far.
I am reaching out to provide an important update.
People will be aware that the Health Minister made an announcement in early July that the UTI service was to be made permanent – this was exciting news for Queensland. The Minister’s media release is available here.
We are now nearing completion of the service implementation and regulatory change – and while we must continue to operate under the UTIPP-Q service conditions until the regulation changes are in place, some initial transitions need to occur.
What does this mean for you?
We will not be accepting any NEW pharmacists or pharmacies into the UTIPP-Q pilot after Friday, 9 September 2022. This will assist the research team to finalise the pilot reporting.
You will be able to continue to provide the UTIPP-Q service you currently provide – in an approved UTIPP-Q pharmacy. You will need to continue to offer the service according to the UTIPP-Q protocol (there is no change in criteria). You will need to continue recording the service in the Guildcare module – including the required patient follow-up at 7 days.
If you change pharmacies you will still need to ensure that the new pharmacy is an approved UTIPP-Q site to be able to offer the service.
We appreciate the hard work of all UTIPP-Q pharmacists and pharmacies. Your dedication and commitment to the UTIPP-Q pilot has again highlighted the contribution and value pharmacists play in the health and healthcare of the Queensland community.
We look forward to your ongoing support in 2022 as we finalise this important work.
